UPDATE - Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes Wednesday with losses

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,804.15 points on Wednesday, ending with losses for the fourth consecutive trading day.
Starting the day at 1,832.14 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index dropped by 87.87 points, or 4.64%, from Tuesday’s closing of 1,892.02 points.
The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,783.77 points, while its daily high was 1,895.54 points.
The total market value of BIST 100 was approximately 1.44 trillion Turkish liras ($110.6 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 42 billion liras ($3.37 billion).
A total of 24 stocks on the index rose during the day, 72 fell, and four remained unchanged compared to Tuesday’s close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, glassmaker Sise Cam, and iron and steel producer Eregli.
Shares of pharmaceutical firm Turk Ilac Serum performed the best with a 9.96% increase, while stocks of three companies plummeted by 10% each.
One ounce of gold traded for $1,792.25 by the day’s end, slightly down from $1,793 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was up 0.5% to $74.33 per barrel as of 6.25 p.m. local time (1525GMT).
