UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped 0.62% to close Wednesday at 94,831.19 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 95,534.29 points, and increased 589.86 points from Tuesday's close of 95,421.05 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 94,519.12 and 95,847.64 points during Wednesday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 633 billion Turkish liras ($109.3 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 5.48 billion Turkish liras ($950.1 million).

On the third transaction day of the week, 34 stocks on the index posted rises, 53 were down, and 13 were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.7 billion), private lenders Garanti ($6.5 billion), and Akbank ($6 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and state lender Halkbank.

Stocks of Celebi Hava Servisi, which provides integrated ground services at airports, were the top performer, up 6.19%, while leasing company Is Finansal Kiralama saw the biggest drop, falling 6.59%.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,409.70 by market close, down from $1,424.00 the previous day.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $65.70 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Wednesday.
