UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 103,780.58 points on Thursday, down 1% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 104,306.92 points. As of the daily close, it lost 1,047.60 points from Wednesday's close of 104,828.18 points.

During Thursday's trading, the index hovered between 103,308.50 points and 105,164.71 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 706.13 billion Turkish liras ($122.65 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 10 billion Turkish liras (some $1.75 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 32 stocks on the index rose, 59 were down, and nine were flat compared to Wednesday.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, defense giant Aselsan, and Garanti.

Automotive producer Karsan was the best performer on Thursday, with its shares up 7.63%, while stocks of conglomerate Metro Holding dropped the most, down 19.79%.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $63.00 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Thursday.
