UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 108,011.45 points on Tuesday, down 0.71% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 108,912.38 points. As of the daily close, it lost 774.61 points from Monday's close of 108,786.06 points.

During Tuesday's trading, the index hovered between 107,617.80 points and 109,378.39 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 737.2 billion Turkish liras ($127.3 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 9.35 billion Turkish liras (some $1.61 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 22 stocks on the index rose, 73 were down, and five were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, cement producer Afyon and telecommunications giant Turk Telekom.

Private equity firm Gozde Girisim was the best performer with its shares up 4.49%, while shares of casting producer Cemas dropped the most, down 8.13%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,467.00 by market close, up from $1,465.25 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $64.40 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
