UPDATE - Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul flat at Friday's close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,398.00 points on Friday, up 0.08% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,398.04 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index rose 1.08 points from Thursday's close of 1,396.92 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,393.56 points, while its daily high was 1,404.60 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was almost 1.1 trillion Turkish liras ($124 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of almost 14.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

A total of 44 stocks on the index rose, 44 fell, and 12 remained unchanged compared to Thursday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, defense company Aselsan, and polyester producer Sasa.

Shares of another defense company Otokar performed the best, rising 5.63%, while stocks of tiling firm Qua Granite dropped the most, 4.71%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,761.10 by market close, up from $1,759.05 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 1.26% to $82.98 per barrel as of 6:33 p.m. local time (1533GMT).
