UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul jumps over 2% at daily close

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed Thursday at 110,114.66 points, up 2.03% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 108,555.89 points. As of the daily close, it gained 2,192.98 points from Wednesday's close of 107,921.68 points, with a daily trading volume of 10.7 billion Turkish liras (some $1.8 billion).

During Thursday's trading, the index hovered between 108,555.89 points and 110,114.66 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 752.2 billion Turkish liras ($129.7 billion) by market close.

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 80 stocks on the index rose, 14 were down, and six were flat compared to Wednesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, petrochemical producer Petkim, and defense giant Aselsan.

Automotive retailer Dogus was the best performer, with its shares up 18.09%, while shares of conglomerate Verusa Holding dropped the most, down 9.84%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,475.00 by market close, up from $1,464.75 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.7780 as of 5 p.m. local time (0200GMT) on Thursday, compared to 5.8070 at Wednesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.4450, versus 6.4410, and one British pound traded for 7.6210 Turkish liras, versus 7.6670 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $64.50 as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT).
