UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul tops 113,000 pts at close

REVISED HEADLINE, UPDATES WITH MORE DAILY FIGURES

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 113,153.46 points on Tuesday, up 0.87% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 112,839.70 points. As of the daily close, it earned 978.27 points from Monday's close of 112,175.19 points.

Tuesday saw the index's highest closing in over 18 months, since April 9, 2018.

During Tuesday's trading, the index hovered between 112,783.03 points and 113,395.50 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 771.3 billion Turkish liras ($130 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 10.96 billion Turkish liras ($1.84 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 76 stocks on the index rose, 21 were down, and three were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, state lender Halkbank, and defense giant Aselsan.

Energy company Isiklar was the best performer, with its shares up 6.78%, while conglomerate Ittifak Holding dropped the most, down 11.11%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,490.50 by market close, up from $1,484 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $67 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
