UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up 0.53% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 120,791.86 points on Monday, up 0.53% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 120,981.96 points. As of the daily close, it earned 640.42 points from last week's close of 120,151.44 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 120,561.20 points and 121,242.40 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 839.7 billion Turkish liras ($138.86 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 14.1 billion Turkish liras ($2.3 billion).

On the first transaction day of the week, 53 stocks on the index rose, 42 were down, and five were flat compared to Friday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by defense giant Aselsan, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and energy company Odas.

Fertilizer producer Gubretas was the best performer, with its shares up 15.82%, while pipe manufacturer Erbosan dropped the most, down 10.63%.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $57.30 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Monday.
