BIST 100 index gains 14.28 points from previous close, rises for 10th consecutive trading day

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,536.32 points on Monday, up 0.94% from the last trading session, at midday last Thursday.

The exchange was closed last Friday as the country celebrated the country's 98th Republic Day.

Monday marked the 10th consecutive trading day that the BIST 100 has ended in positive territory.

Starting the day at 1,523.54 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 14.28 points from Thursday's midday close of 1,522.04 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,516.24 points and its daily high was 1,538.52 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was almost 1.21 trillion Turkish liras ($128 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 20.4 billion Turkish liras ($2.1 billion).

A total of 66 stocks on the index rose, while 34 fell, compared to Thursday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and glassmaker Sise Cam.

Shares of Ziraat GMYO, a real estate investment trust operating under state lender Ziraat Bank, performed the best, rising 10%, while stocks of waste-to-energy firm Biotrend dropped the most, 6.23%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,785.55 by market close, down from $1,787.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 0.9% to $84.47 per barrel as of 6.43 p.m. local time (1543GMT).
