UPDATE - Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul up 1.04% at Thursday’s close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,406.39 points on Thursday, up 1.04% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,393.69 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 14.47 points from Wednesday’s close of 1,391.92 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,386.09 points, while its daily high was 1,409.19 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was more than 1.06 trillion Turkish liras ($120.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of almost 15.93 billion Turkish liras ($1.79 billion).

A total of 61 stocks on the index rose, 31 fell, and eight remained unchanged compared to Wednesday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and glassmaker Sise Cam.

Shares of Turkey’s leading tractor producer Turk Traktor performed the best, rising 7.2%, while stocks of electricity company Esenboga dropped the most, 4.26%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,732.55 by market close, down from $1,743.70 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 0.4% to $78.40 per barrel as of 6.34 p.m. local time (1534GMT).
