UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up 1.58% at Thursday's close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,455.42 points on Thursday, up 1.58% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,432.94 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 22.62 points from Wednesday's close of 1,432.80 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,417.21 points and its daily high was 1,455.42 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.14 trillion Turkish liras ($123.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 27 billion Turkish liras ($2.9 billion).

A total of 68 stocks on the index rose, 27 fell and five remained unchanged compared to Wednesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, carmaker Ford Otosan, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Shares of Halk real estate investment trust performed the best, rising 9.62%, while stocks of pharmaceutical firm Turk Ilac ve Serum Sanayi​​​​​​​ dropped the most, 3.79%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,782.70 by market close, up from $1,777.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 2.5% to $83.67 per barrel as of 6.31 p.m. local time (1531GMT).
