UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.47% to close at 87,186.3 points on Wednesday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 86,932.70 points and gained 408.68 points from Tuesday's close of 86,777.63 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 86,558.76 and 87,769.41 points during Wednesday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 577.7 billion Turkish liras ($95.7 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 5.3 billion Turkish liras ($886 million).

On the third transaction day of the week, 37 stocks on the index were on the rise, 53 were on the decline, and 10 were flat compared to the previous close.

The top listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lender Garanti and petrochemical company Tupras.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and petrochemical company Petkim.

Shares of prominent sports club Galatasaray were the top gainers -- up 8.27% -- and energy and construction company Isiklar Enerji Yapi Holding's shares dropped the most, 7.69%.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,285.10 by market close, up from $1,278.80 the previous day.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $67.70 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Wednesday.
