ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.78% to close Thursday at 95,573.12 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 95,256.46 points. It soared by 741.93 points from Wednesday's close of 94,831.19 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 95,256.46 and 95,990.10 points during Thursday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 637.5 billion Turkish liras ($110.6 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 5.7 billion Turkish liras ($992 million).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 68 stocks on the index rose, 21 were down, and 11 were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.6 billion), private lenders Garanti ($6.5 billion) and Akbank ($6 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, petrochemical giant Petkim.

Private lender ICBC Turkey Bank was the top gainer, with its shares up 14.02%, while shares of conglomerate Ittifak Holding fell most, down 19.23%.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,404.50 by market close, down from $1,409.70 the previous day.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $65.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Thursday.
