UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at Thursday close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Thursday at 1,538.04 points, up 0.46%.

Starting the day at 1,527.07 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 6.99 points over Wednesday's close of 1,531.05 points.

The index's lowest value was 1,523.20 points during the day, while its daily high was 1,542.65 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.16 trillion Turkish liras ($157.1 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 25.9 billion Turkish liras ($3.5 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 46 stocks on the index rose, 49 fell, and five were flat compared to Wednesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, petrochemical firm Petkim and glass producer Sisecam.

Stocks of IT company Indeks Bilgisayar was the best performer, with its shares up 9.96%, while stocks of automotive firm Ford Otosan dropped the most, down 4.63%.

According to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was $1,712.30 by market close, down from $1,729.30 at the previous close.

Brent crude oil price was around $65.20 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Thursday.
