UPDATE - Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul up at Thursday's close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,410.79 points on Thursday, up by 0.60% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,405.26 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 8.44 points from the previous close of 1,402.35 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,405.17 points, while its daily high was 1,416.14 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was just below 1 trillion Turkish liras (over $114 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 11.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.38 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 63 stocks on the index rose, 31 fell and six were flat compared to Wednesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and real estate investment trust Emlak Konut.

Stocks of fertilizer provider Ege Gubre was the best performer with its shares up 7.42%, while shares of cement producer Konya Cimento saw the sharpest drop of 3.44%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,784.30 by market close, up from $1,783.95 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $75.50 per barrel as of 6.10 p.m. local time (1510GMT).
