UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at Thursday's close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,444.46 points on Thursday, up 2.38% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,419.69 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 33.59 points from Wednesday's close of 1,410.87 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,419.69 points, while its daily high was 1,447.63 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was almost 1.09 trillion Turkish liras ($126 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 15.7 billion Turkish liras ($1.8 billion).

A total of 86 stocks on the index rose, 12 fell, and two remained unchanged compared to Wednesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, iron and steel producer Kardemir, and energy firm Tupras.

Software firm Logo was the best performer of the day with its shares up 7.2%. Stocks of Borusan Yatirim ve Pazarlama A.S., which invests in companies operating in steel, distributorship, logistics, and technology sectors, did the worst by slipping 2.48%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1.750,45 by market close, up from $1.740,80 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $71.11 per barrel as of 6:23 p.m. local time (1523GMT).
