UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at Tuesday's close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,408.81 points on Tuesday, up 0.65% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 1,402.26 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 9.16 points from Monday's close of 1,399.65 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,394.27 points, while its daily high was 1,409.24 points.

The total market value of BIST 100 was 1.06 trillion Turkish liras ($126.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of almost 9.7 billion Turkish liras ($1.16 billion).

While 54 stocks on the index rose, 43 fell, and three remained flat compared to Monday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, iron and steel producer Eregli, and glass maker Sise Cam.

Tofas was the best performer of the day with its shares up 8.1%. Stocks of conglomerate Verusa Holding did the worst by falling 3.3%.

One ounce of gold was traded for $1,809.50 by market close, up from $1,808.80 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $72.25 per barrel as of 6.31 p.m. local time (1531GMT).
