UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at weekly close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index was up 1% to close the week on Friday at 1,191.96 points.

Starting the day at 1,180.49 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 11.94 points over Thursday's close of 1,180.02 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,177.05, and 1,192.24 points.The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 883 billion Turkish liras ($104 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 21.7 billion Turkish liras ($2.5 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, iron/steel producer Kardemir and state lender Industrial Development Bank (TSKB),

Telecommunication company Alcatel Lucent Teletas was the worst performer, with its shares down 6.18 %, while stocks of Ege Endustri, which manufactures components for the automotive industry, increased the most, rising 6.03 %.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,946.95 by market close, up from $1,914.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $40 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Friday.
