UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up nearly 1% at weekly close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.95% to close Friday at 96,485.32 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 95,821.21 points. It soared 912.20 points from Thursday's close of 95,573.12 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 95,532.22 and 96,650.32 points during Friday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 643.1 billion Turkish liras ($111.5 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 5.6 billion Turkish liras ($973 million).

On the last transaction day of the week, 41 stocks on the index rose, 39 were down, and 20 were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($7.7 billion), private lenders Garanti ($6.5 billion) and Akbank ($6.1 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and Akbank.

Shares of aviation company Pegasus Airlines increased most, up 7.50%, while hospital group Medical Park performed the worst, with its shares down 2.77%.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,412.40 by market close, up from $1,404.50 the previous day.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $65.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT).
