UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up over by 1% at close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 108,004.30 points on Monday, up 1.03% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 107,350.11 points. As of the daily close, it earned 1,100.62 points from the last week's close of 106,903.68 points.

The index, of which deepest level was around 84,500 points level in this year, hit the highest figure at close with 108,004.30 points during 2019.

During Monday's trading, the index hovered between 107,318.05 points and 108,210.24 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 733.6 billion Turkish liras ($127.8 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 9.64 billion Turkish liras (some $1.67 billion).

On the first transaction day of the week, 90 stocks on the index rose, seven were down, and three were flat compared to Friday.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, sports clubs Besiktas and Galatasaray.

Prominent sports club Galatasaray was the best performer with its shares up 19.68%, while shares of medical group Medical Park dropped the most, down 1.10%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,458.90 by market close, up from $1,457.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $61.40 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Monday.
