ISTANBUL (AA) – Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization (MIT) on Sunday neutralized Abdulhamit Kapar, a so-called senior member of the PKK terrorist organization, according to security sources.
The operation took place in the city of Qamishli, Syria, near Turkish border, security sources reported.
Abdulhamit Kapar, codenamed "Tekin Guyi," was a so-called PKK leader who was specifically involved in logistics and finance.
He was under MIT surveillance for a long time before being neutralized, which is considered a significant success in Türkiye's counterterrorism efforts.
He joined the PKK/KCK in 1992, moved to Syria in 2018, and was involved in organizing the 1992 terror attack on the Tasdelen Gendarmerie Station in Sirnak, where 26 Turkish soldiers were killed and two more kidnapped.
Kapar was listed in the "green" category of the Interior Ministry's "Most Wanted Terrorists" list.
Turkish authorities use the term "neutralize" to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.
In its nearly 40-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
