WASHINGTON (AA) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held separate calls with senior Gulf leaders following recent attacks in the region, Türkiye's Communications Directorate said Sunday.

In his call with President of the United Arab Emirates Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Erdogan expressed his condolences regarding the attacks on the UAE, the directorate said on US social media company X.

Erdogan discussed the latest situation in the region with Al Nahyan, it added.

On Saturday morning, the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran, claiming it was meant to remove “threats” posed by the "Iranian regime.” In response, Iran targeted Israel and the US bases in the region with missiles and drones.

Five Arab countries hosting US military bases - Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE - reported explosions and missile interceptions Saturday amid continued Israeli and US attacks on Iran.

Erdogan also spoke with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Turkish president conveyed his sympathies following the attacks and received information from Al Thani regarding the latest developments in Qatar.
