UPDATE - Turkish stocks down 2.17% at midweek close
BIST 100 index drops nearly 2,500 points from Tuesday's close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.84

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day down 2.17% to close at 99,648.74 points on Wednesday.
Starting the day at 102,146.54 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 2,497.80 points from 101,859.28 points at Tuesday's close.
During midweek trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 99,622.98 points and 102,602.51 points -- 10 stocks on the index rose and 90 fell compared to the previous close.
Closing the day with a market value of nearly 668 billion Turkish liras ($115 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 9.65 billion Turkish liras ($1.65 billion).
By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($6.75 billion) and Akbank ($6.66 billion) were the top companies of BIST 100.
Shares of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and leasing company Is Finansal Kiralama posted the highest trading volumes -- accounting for around 36% of the benchmark index's total trade volume.
Shares of Is Finansal Kiralama (ISFIN) performed the best, rising 6.16%, as stocks of prominent sports club Fenerbahce (FENER) did the worst with a 8.04% drop.
An ounce of gold sold for $1,508.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,504.90 at the previous close.
The price of Brent oil was $58.53 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday -- with a day range of $57.91 to $59.27.
At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $53.
