ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Tuesday that two people were killed and more than 30 people others injured in Russian airstrikes on the northeastern city of Kharkiv.
“As a result of two strikes on the industrial district of Kharkiv, 28 people were injured. Of them, 17 people were hospitalized, including a 16-year-old boy,” Governor Oleh Synyehubov said on Telegram.
Synyehubov said three of those hospitalized are in serious condition, while search and rescue efforts are continuing.
Russia used seven guided bombs and two drones against residents of the Kharkiv region, he claimed.
He later reported that another strike took place in the city's Kyivskyi district, saying two people were killed and more than three people were injured.
About four guided bombs were used in total, he said.
Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov said the initial attack struck a civilian enterprise which caused a large-scale fire.
Russian authorities have not yet commented on the claims.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, located about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from the Russian border, has been regularly targeted by airstrikes, which have increased as Russia attempts to breach Ukraine’s defenses in the broader region since early May.
The Russian offensive in the northeastern region opened a new front in the over two-year-long conflict that was hitherto concentrated in the country’s east and south.
