WASHINGTON (AA) - The United Parcel Service (UPS) said one of their aircraft was involved in a crash Tuesday near Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) in Louisville, Kentucky, prompting the temporary closure of the airfield.
"Aircraft incident confirmed at SDF.
"At this time, the airfield is closed, more details to come," the airport said on the US social media company X’s platform.
The Louisville Metro Police Department said the department and several other agencies are responding to reports of a plane crash near Fern Valley and Grade Lane.
UPS has not confirmed any injuries or casualties at this time, but the department said injuries were reported.
"Injuries reported. This is an active scene with fire and debris. Stay away," it said.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said UPS flight 2976 crashed around 5.15 pm local time (2215GMT) after departing from the airport in Kentucky to Honolulu, Hawaii with three crewmembers onboard.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the crash.
