WASHINGTON (AA) - The US State Department approved the possible sale of Javelin missiles to Australia for an estimated cost of $100 million, the Pentagon said Monday.
"The proposed sale will improve the Australian Army’s capability to meet current and future threats by maintaining and increasing its anti-armor capability," it said in a statement.
The prime contractors will be the Javelin Joint Venture between RTX Corporation, located in Tucson, Arizona, and Lockheed Martin, located in Orlando, Florida, it added.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of the possible sale on Monday.
