US companies file motion against Trump's travel ban
Immigration ban ‘inflicting substantial harm on US companies’, firms say
NEW YORK (AA) – A travel ban by President Donald Trump violates the Constitution, immigration laws and harms business, 97 American companies have said in a court motion that challenges the order.
The firms, which include Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter, claimed in a signed document that Trump's executive order that bars immigrants and refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S., poses "a sudden shift in the rules governing entry into the U.S., and is inflicting substantial harm on U.S. companies.
"Immigrants make many of the Nation's greatest discoveries, and create some of the country's most innovative and iconic companies," the court motion read.
The motion was filed late Sunday with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, which earlier in the day denied the Justice Department's request to resume the travel ban, after a federal judge on Friday reversed Trump's executive order restricting immigration.
The appeals court in San Francisco has asked both sides to file legal briefs before it makes a final decision.
Legal experts say the case may be ultimately decided by the Supreme Court.
