NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) - Two Kenyans and 90 Somalis, who were deported from the U.S., arrived in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi Wednesday, a Kenyan official said.
Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe confirmed to Anadolu Agency that the group had been deported without any given reasons.
"Yes, I can confirm that two Kenyans and 90 Somalis arrived in Nairobi today [Wednesday] but we are yet to receive details of the cause of their deportation," Kiraithe said.
However, a senior officer at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, who spoke to Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said the group was accompanied by U.S. police officers and linked the deportation to new U.S. President Donald Trump's policies on immigration.
The Somalis are set to leave for the Somali capital of Mogadishu later on Wednesday night, the officer added.
Kenya’s government spokesman's office said the U.S., according to protocol, should have informed the foreign ministry in advance.
According to Kenya’s ministry of foreign affairs, there are over 200,000 Kenyans living in the United States.
