US destroys Houthi targets in Red Sea
Anti-ship ballistic missile, unmanned surface vessel and unmanned aerial vehicle presented 'imminent threat' to vessels in region, says US Central Command

WASHINGTON (AA) - The US destroyed targets that were launched from areas of Yemen controlled by the Houthi group, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said Friday.
"At 9:52 a.m. (Sanaa time) on April 25, one anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) was launched from Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist-controlled areas of Yemen into the Gulf of Aden," CENTCOM said on X.
There were no injuries or damage reported by US, coalition, or commercial ships, it added.
"Separately, between 12:19 p.m. and 4:17 p.m. (Sanaa time), U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) successfully engaged and destroyed one unmanned surface vessel (USV) and one unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen," it said.
CENTCOM said it determined that the ASBM, USV and UAV presented an "imminent threat" to vessels in the region.
Yemen’s Houthi group has been targeting cargo ships in the Red Sea owned or operated by Israeli companies or transporting goods to and from Israel in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been under an Israeli onslaught since Oct. 7 last year.
The Red Sea is one of the world's most frequently used sea routes for oil and fuel shipments.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recently announced the creation of a multinational mission, Operation Prosperity Guardian, to counter the Houthi attacks.
