US durable goods orders jump 4.7% in September, beating estimates
Expectation was to show 1.7% increase

ISTANBUL (AA) - US durable goods orders soared 4.7% in September, beating expectations, according to a report by the Commerce Department’s Census Bureau that was released Thursday.
New orders for manufactured durable goods jumped $13.2 billion to $297.2 billion, said the agency, noting the increase ended two consecutive months of declines.
The estimate for the figure was to show an increase of 1.7%.
The figure for August was revised to show a decrease of 0.1%, from a gain of 0.2%, standing at $284 billion.
Excluding transportation, new orders climbed 0.5%, while excluding defense, increased 5.8%, according to the report.
