BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) — Citizens in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, told Anadolu that they are closely following the Nov. 5 presidential election in the USA and they are hoping for former President Donald Trump to declare victory.

The citizens cited the former president’s commitment to ending conflicts.

Tamara Kostic said that the US, led by Trump, deserves a chance to resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine.

"I look at the news once every few days. For Trump, I think he is better for the economy, probably yes, let's give him a chance to try ... As for the war, I think the whole world would be better off without wars, so let's give America a chance to resolve the wars that are currently in Europe," said Kostic.

Bojana Djindjic expressed her enthusiasm for following the elections and the race between Trump and the Democratic Party's candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris.

"It is a current issue, and I am very happy to follow it because now it is an uncertain struggle, male and female. A radical capitalist, Trump is my favorite — a proven capitalist and a financier who started from scratch several times and raised the economy," said Djindjic.

Djindjic believes that Trump's victory would benefit Serbia, too.

"During his last term, there were not many conflicts, and I hope that if he wins, he will end some of the current wars. I assume that would be very good for Serbia.

"I would like the borders to be opened, and for America to move towards Serbia, fostering cooperation and economic collaboration in the new areas," said Djindjic.

Boban Cvetinovic said that if he could vote, he would support Trump. "If there were a vote, it would go to Trump. I'm not sure why, but according to some stories from his supporters, they say life functioned better when he was president."

On Trump's potential to end ongoing conflicts in the world, he suggested that this was a possibility but far from certain. "Maybe it's just their way of life—they create crisis situations to solve them, making wars an integral part of life there. If the plan is to end a war, and if everything aligns, then the war will end. But if they need a war, they'll make one—and not just that, but other things, too."

According to Cvetinovic, American politics and relations with Serbia are a long-term projection.

"America's policies change very slowly. Its politics and relations with Serbia are a long-term projection, so they don't deviate much. Meetings with the president may or may not be cordial, depending on the political path ... As far as the relations between Serbia and America are concerned, they have always been friendly. That is so far removed that it will not directly affect Serbia," said Cvetinovic.

The election, set for Nov. 5, appears poised to be a close race between Trump and Harris.

According to multiple polls, Trump and Harris have been neck-and-neck for the past few weeks. A final nationwide CNN poll released last week showed them tied at 47%.
