Ethics Committee secretly voted to release report after lawmakers leave for holidays, CNN, NBC reported

WASHINGTON (AA) - A US House of Representatives committee voted to publicly release a report detailing the findings of its investigation into former congressman Matt Gaetz, according to media reports Wednesday.
The Ethics Committee secretly held a vote earlier this month and the report is expected to be released after lawmakers wrap up their final votes of the year and leave Washington for the holiday break, CNN and NBS reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The decision marks a reversal from the committee’s stance last month, when it was deadlocked in a closed-door vote on whether to release the report.
Gaetz has been under investigation by the ethics committee on allegations of sexual misconduct, illegal drug use and accepting improper gifts.
The lawmaker, who resigned last month after President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to nominate him to the US Attorney General post, has denied any wrongdoing.
In addition to the committee's long-running investigation, Gaetz had been under federal scrutiny on allegations that he engaged in underage sex trafficking. That probe was closed in February 2023.
