US national arrested in Moscow for assaulting police officer

MOSCOW (AA) - The Russian Investigative Committee announced Wednesday that a US national was arrested in Moscow for assaulting a police officer.

On the night of Aug. 12, police stopped a man for a routine document check. He refused to provide identification and subsequently attacked a law enforcement officer, according to a statement.

Media reports identified the suspect as Joseph Taguer and said he was arrested at the Radisson Hotel in central Moscow.

The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case and plans to request that a court place Taguer in custody until his hearing.
