WASHINGTON (AA) - The US State Department voiced outrage Tuesday at the reported killing of a Save the Children aid worker in the Gaza Strip last weekend.

"We are outraged, and we are wanting more information about this incident. We are concerned by that reported strike that killed the Save the Children aid worker in Khan Younis," spokesman Vedant Patel said at a news conference.

"Our view is and has been that humanitarian workers must be protected so they can safely deliver aid, whether it be in Gaza or whether it be truly anywhere in the world," said Patel.

The aid group confirmed Saturday the death of a staffer, Ahmad Faisal Isleem Al-Qadi, in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis -- the second worker killed in Gaza since the Israeli onslaught against the Palestinian enclave.

"He was killed early Saturday afternoon as he was returning home to his wife and three-year-old daughter from the mosque. Up to 17 people were reported killed in at least two separate attacks in Khan Younis on Saturday," it said.
