US president signs broad aviation safety, consumer bill into law

WASHINGTON (AA) – US President Joe Biden signed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act into law on Thursday.

"The bipartisan Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization is a big win for travelers, the aviation workforce and our economy," Biden said in a statement.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a $105 billion aviation bill for another five years to boost air traffic controller staffing, increase funding to avert runway close-call incidents and speed refunds for canceled flights and sent it to Biden's desk for his signature.

"It also builds on my administration’s efforts to improve the travel experience for airline passengers, affirming the Department of Transportation’s rule that mandated automatic refunds when flights are cancelled or significantly delayed," Biden said.
