US sanctions shipping company, 13 vessels, accusing them of supporting Iran

US remains committed to disrupting illicit funding that supports Iran’s production of weapons used in regional conflicts, says US official

ISTANBUL (AA) – The US on Thursday sanctioned a Dubai-based shipping company and a fleet of 13 vessels, accusing them of facilitating trade in support of the Iranian military.

In a statement on X, Matthew Miller, spokesman for the US State Department, announced the sanctions targeting Iran.

The statement noted the sanctions were imposed on Dubai-based Oceanlink Maritime, and a fleet of 13 vessels managed by the company.

Miller said these parties are facilitating commercial activities in support of Iran’s military, adding: “The United States remains committed to disrupting illicit funding that supports Iran’s production of weapons used in regional conflicts."

The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) also made a statement on Thursday, giving detailed information about the sanctions.

Brian Nelson, undersecretary of the Treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence, said: "We are focused on disrupting Iran’s ability to finance its terrorist proxy and partner groups and support to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.”
