US stock exchanges close mixed

VIX volatility index rises 2.2% to 12.98

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major US stock indexes finished mixed Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 13 points, or 0.04%, to close at 35,430.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, lost four points, or 0.09%, to 4,550. The Nasdaq shed 23 points, or 0.16%, to finish the session at 14,258.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 2.2% to 12.98. The 10-year US Treasury yield shed 1.7% to 4.259%.

The dollar index rose 0.1% to 102.85, while the euro shed 0.15% to reach $1.0975 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold adding 0.15% to $2,044 per ounce but silver decreasing 0.1% to $25.01

Oil prices were up around 1.6%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $82.69 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $77.75.
