US stock market closes with gains
Microsoft, American Airlines shares each rise 2 percent
NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market closed in positive territory Monday with help from rising stock prices of major American companies.
The Dow added 39 points to finish at 19,883. The S&P increased four points to 2,262 and the Nasdaq rose 20 points to end the day at 5,457.
Shares of Microsoft, American Airlines and retail giant, Costco, each rose 2 percent.
Investors on Monday stayed away from making big bets and taking risks on the first day of the week of Christmas, according to analysts.
