US stock market finishes Monday mixed
Precious metals still negative, oil prices down around 2%

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major indexes in the US stock market finished Monday on a mixed note.
The Dow Jones was down 74 points, or 0.22%, to close the first trading day of October at 33,433. The blue-chip index registered a loss of 3.5% last month.
The S&P 500 was almost unchanged with less than a 1-point gain at 4,288. The index dove 4.9% last month to record its worst monthly performance since December.
The Nasdaq, on the other hand, rose 88 points, or 0.67%, to finish the session at 13,307. The tech-heavy index recorded a 5.8% decline in September.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was up 0.5% to 17.61 at the time. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 2.6% to 4.696%.
The dollar index rose 0.72% to 106.99, while the euro shed 0.82% to reach $1.0482 against the greenback.
Precious metals were still in the red, with gold trimming 1.1% to $1,828 per ounce and silver decreasing 4.7% to $21.15.
Oil prices were down around 2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $90.61 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $88.83.
