US stock market mixed on Tuesday

ISTANBUL (AA) — Major exchanges in the US stock market were mixed on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones was up 44 points, or 0.11%, to 39,851 at 10.06 a.m. EDT (1406GMT).

The S&P 500, on the other hand, was flat at 5,307. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, decreased 37 points, or 0.22%, to 16,757.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 0.9% to 12.26. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 0.8% to 4.402%.

The dollar index added 0.1% to 104.66, while the euro shed 0.02% to $1.0852 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in the green, with gold rising 0.17% to $2,430 per ounce and silver increasing 1.35% to $32.24.

Oil prices were down around 1.1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $82.81 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $78.42.
