US stock market opens at new all-time high

NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened at a new all-time high on Thursday, after indexes closed at record high levels on Wednesday.

The Dow gained 13 points to begin the day at 20,081. The Nasdaq rose nine points to start trading at 5,665.

The S&P 500 added less than a point to open at 2,299, and shortly after climbed above the critical threshold of 3,000 points for the first time in history.

President Donald Trump's swift moves to meet his economic and energy goals have given confidence to investors, who have continued to maintain a buying position in the market Thursday, according to analysts.

Crude oil prices were also up around 2 percent after Wall Street opened.

Shortly after the first bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate climbed to $53.80 per barrel with a 1.9 percent gain, while international benchmark Brent crude reached $56.33 – a 2.2 percent increase.
