US stock market opens higher
American banks' shares rise on final trading day of 2016

NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened higher on Friday as the stock prices of major American banks increased on the last trading day of the year.
The Dow added 14 points to begin the day at 19,834 and the S&P 500 was up two points at 2,251.
The Nasdaq rose five points to start trading at 5,437.
At the first bell, the stock price of Citigroup rose 0.4 percent, and Wells Fargo saw its shares gain by 0.2 percent.
