US stock market opens higher
Indexes are up with rise in crude prices and as fears over Brexit ease
NEW YORK (AA) – The stock market opened with gains on Monday to begin the new week on a higher note as oil prices increased and investors perceive less risk over Brexit.
The Dow Jones rose 191 points to start the day at 17,886 points. The S&P 500 was up 21 points to open at 2,092, while the Nasdaq gained 62 points to begin the day at 4,862.
At the opening bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was trading at $49.37 per barrel with a 1.7 percent increase, and international benchmark Brent crude was at $50.01 a barrel with a 1.7 percent gain.
Analysts highlighted investors' fears over the U.K. leaving the EU, also known as Brexit, have subsided since the latest polls showed that it is more likely that voters will choose to stay with the Union in the upcoming vote on Thursday.
Last week, the indexes in the U.S. stock market recorded losses over Brexit worries.
