US stock market opens higher

NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened higher on Wednesday as oil prices began increasing again.

The Dow Jones rose 11 points to start the day at 17,841 points. The S&P 500 was up 2 points to open at 2,091, while the Nasdaq gained 3 points to begin the day at 4,847 reflecting the positive note that all three indexes opened with for a third day in a row.

At the opening bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was trading at $50.22 a barrel with a 0.5 percent increase, and international benchmark Brent crude was at $50.96 per barrel with a 0.4 percent gain.

The markets will examine the U.S.' weekly crude oil inventories to be announced Wednesday, and will then focus on the U.K.'s EU referendum Thursday.
