US stock market opens higher

The Fed is not expected to raise interest rates

NEW YORK (AA) – The stock market opened higher Wednesday with a positive sentiment among investors that the Federal Reserve will not make an interest rate hike.

The Dow Jones jumped 57 points to begin the day at 18,531. The S&P 500 rose 5 points to 2,174, while the Nasdaq gained 34 points to 5,144 to begin the day.

The rise in European stocks also helped Wall Street to begin the day higher.

At the first bell, Germany's DAX index was up 0.88 percent, while the U.K.'s FTSE posted a 0.74 percent increase, and France's CAC 40 saw a 1.63 percent gain.

The Fed is not expected to make a rate hike when its two-day July meeting is concluded on Wednesday. However, in its statement, the bank could signal the possibility of raising the interest rate at its September or December meeting, according to analysts.
