US stock market opens higher with strong jobs figure

ANKARA (AA) - Major indexes in the US stock market opened higher on Friday with strong jobs figure.

The Dow Jones was up 359 points, or 1.1%, to 32,353 at 9.34 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 added 48 points, or 1.3%, to 3,768.

The Nasdaq increased 120 points, or 1.2%, to 10,460.

US economy added 261,000 jobs in October, above the market estimate of a 200,000 gain, while job additions for September was revised up by 52,000 from 263,000 to 315,000, the Labor Department announced earlier.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was down 2.4% to 24.70. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.4% to 4.142%.

The dollar index dove 1.2% to 111.63, but still hovering around its highest in 20 years, while the euro jumped 1.2% to $0.9869 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise with gold adding 2% to $1,663 and silver increasing 4.5% to $20.34.

Oil prices were up around 4%. Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $98.43 per barrel, while the US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was around $92.23.
