US stock market opens lower
Oil prices down more than 1 percent
NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened with losses on Wednesday as worries over the European Central Bank (ECB) meeting have increased, and oil prices declined.
The Dow added 12 points to begin the new trading day at 19,238. The S&P 500 was up almost two points to 2,210 and the Nasdaq increased six points to 5,326.
Although there is optimism among the markets that the ECB would extend its stimulus program at Thursday’s meeting, investors are worried that the bank could take other measures.
Oil prices were on decline when Wall Street opened Wednesday.
American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was trading at $50.19 a barrel with a 1.3 percent fall, and international benchmark Brent crude was at $53.26 per barrel -- a 1.1 percent loss.
