US stock market opens lower

NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened lower Wednesday as investors have taken a short-term sell-off position in indexes, which retreated from their historical high levels.

The Dow and the Nasdaq both reached their respective all-time record-high levels on Tuesday.

At the opening bell on Wednesday, however, investors aimed for quick gains and began to sell.

Social media giant Facebook and Google's parent company Alphabet saw their stock price decline by 0.4 and 0.9 percent, respectively, at the first bell.

The Dow added five points to begin the day at 19,968 and the S&P 500 rose two points to 2,268.

Nasdaq increased five points to open at 5,478.
