US stock market opens lower
Durable goods orders fall for the first time in 5 months
NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened lower on Thursday with disappointing durable goods orders in November.
The Dow fell 25 points to begin the day at 19,916 and the S&P 500 was down five points at 2,259. The Nasdaq decreased nine points to start trading at 5,461.
Durable goods orders fell by 4.6 percent in November, according to the Department of Commerce earlier Thursday. This is the first decline in the last five months.
The strong data in the third quarter Gross Domestic Product, on the other hand, was not enough to prevent Wall Street from opening with losses.
The American economy grew faster than previously estimated between July and September. The third quarter GDP was revised up to 3.5 percent, from the previous estimate of 3.2 percent, the Department of Commerce said.
