US stock market opens lower
Stocks are down after Donald Trump's dollar and interest rate comments
NEW YORK (AA) - U.S. stock markets opened lower Thursday after President Donald Trump's comments on the American dollar and interest rates on Wednesday.
The Dow fell 38 points to start the day at 20,553 points, and the S&P lost 3 points to 2,341.
The Nasdaq decreased 6 points to begin trading at 5,829 points.
Trump said Wednesday that a strong dollar hurts American companies' competitiveness, and added that he likes a low interest rate policy.
The Federal Reserve raised its interest rates in December and March, and is expected to make two more rate hikes this year.
A strong dollar is usually perceived as a positive sign for the overall American economy.
